What We Do
Research Conflict of Interest Committee (RCOIC)
The Research Conflict of Interest Committee (RCOIC) is responsible for reviewing and evaluating all Sponsored Projects submitted to it by the Conflicts Management Unit in which an Investigator participating in the project has disclosed having a Financial Interest or an Institutional Conflict of Interest exists in relation to the Sponsored Project. Upon review of the Investigators' Financial Interest or Institutional Conflict of Interest, the RCOIC will make a determination on whether Compelling Circumstances exist to justify an Investigator's participation in the Sponsored Project or, in the case of an Instutional Conflict of Interest, to approve the project, not withstanding the presence of an Instituional Conflict of Interest. In such cases where Compelling Circumstances exist, the RCOIC will approve a management plan.
More importantly, the RCOIC has an obligation to make sure that the research is free of the appearance of impropriety, and that the the human subjects particpating in the study are proteced by either managing or eliminating the conflict or referring the matter to the Vice Dean of Research for a final decision.
